I have always wanted to carry Shelly’s patterns, (hello, she has a Frano & Fiona pattern, how perfect is that?) and now we have finally caught up with her and Figgy’s Spring & Summer 2012 line. I just wish the Zephyr came in adult sizes!

Good Morning! Rochelle here to share a project I completed for the shop last week – The Iris Shorts by Colette Patterns!

The Iris shorts are one of three brand new patterns by Colette for the Spring/Summer season that we now carry in the shop. I’m a huge fan of Colette Patterns because their instructions are well explained and easy to follow. They also have detailed online tutorials to help you through zipper installations and things like that. Highly recommended!

I started out by tracing the pattern onto pattern paper. This is a great extra step to take if you aren’t sure what size will give you the best fit. By tracing the pattern instead of cutting it, you have the ability to try a larger or smaller size. Not to mention you can save your uncut pattern for future use and all of your original pieces will remain intact. All of the supplies you may need for this project, including the tracing paper, can be found here at nido.

I love that the pocket lining gives these shorts a little surprise pop of a fun pattern! This is a great way to incorporate a bold print or loud color into a pair of plain denim or twill shorts if you wanted a pair that were more subtle on the outside.

I followed the tutorial on Colette’s website for some extra instruction on installing an invisible zipper since I typically prefer standard ones. The photos online really helped me achieve a truly invisible zipper for a very tailored looking pair of shorts.
Here are the Iris shorts all finished! What do you think?

These shorts are great because you can use a wide range of fabric types, weights, patterns, and colors. You can also sew option 2 for a nautical/sailor style pair with buttons! How cute!

Well that’s it for today. I’m working on two other Colette patterns for the shop this week, and will be sharing those finished projects soon.
Have a great week everyone!

Get her something you know she’s going to love, a nido gift certificate! Perfect last minute gift for those of you who are still looking to get the mom in your life a little special something.

Heather Ross previewed her new collection, Nursery Versery, on her blog this week. The collection will come in four prints, each offered in at least three colorways and is being printed on sheeting, which I assume is the lighter weight cotton-linen blend that Kokka printed half of Heather’s last collection, Far Far Away III on.
How adorable are these pigs? AND Franco will definitely be getting something sewn out of the Itsy Bitsy Spider print! For me I thought maybe a skirt would be called for out of the Penny Patch print:

Or possibly the Country Mice:

We will have to see what I end up making!
nido is expecting to have the entire collection arrive at the shop as soon as it ships in early June. Needless to say, we are looking forward to its arrival.

Just popping in to let you know that nido has a ton of new knitting books & patterns! Stop by this weekend and check them out & while you’re here, take advantage of our flannel sale! (ends Sunday 5/6).
I am so very excited to be carrying Wiksten Patterns! I’ll bet I can’t get through the week without trying to make one. The only problem will be which to make first, the Tova or the Tank Dress??

Which do you like better?

Hello, Rochelle here to share a quick little project I completed for the shop recently. Anyone who’s taken a class with us has probably noticed our ironing boards are well loved. It was high time for them to don some new covers! I used this really great tutorial and had two great looking covers in no time at all.
Here’s a before and after shot so you can see what a huge difference such a quick project can make! (The dark spots on the left board are iron burns, the dark spots on the right board are shadows. Yes, the one on the right is the brand new fresh one! Sorry for the lack luster photos…)
I used 1.75 yards of Denyse Schmidt’s Flower & Dot in the green colorway, and one bag of craft batting to complete this project. The pattern calls for two yards of fabric, but even with the added seam allowance, I had plenty of wiggle room.

The steps involved with this pattern are very simple and straightforward. Basically you trace your current ironing board to make a template, add 2.5 inches to that template, quilt some batting to the fabric, and sew a quick channel for the draw string!

Ta-da! A good as new ironing board! If you’re looking for a quick and easy day project to brighten up your sewing or laundry room, give this one a try. Some new fabric and fresh batting really makes a world of difference. We’ve already had some positive feed back from last week’s Sew Liberated Tunic class!
I’m glad to hear our NEW covers are getting their fair share of love.
Speaking of the Sew Liberated’s Schoolhouse Tunic, we just received a new shipment of those patterns, as well as Colette’s new Spring/Summer line!
Many more new items are expected in the shop this week so stay tuned!
Happy Monday!

There are only 2 Ink & Spindle Allsorts Quilt Kits left. Yep. For those of you who have been interetsed in purchasing one one these, you might want to act now. At this time, they are no longer availble at Ink & Spindle.

We just finished up our Flat Bottom Zipper Pouch class at the shop. And what fun it was! We feel so fortunate to have such wonderful customers that we gladly call friends.

For those of who who are itching for a new project and would like to join us for a class this week, there are a couple of openings in Tuesday’s Sew Liberated Schoolhouse Tunic class, plus a few in Sunday’s Working with Knits class. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon or evening, and who couldn’t use a few tricks to add to their sewing repertoire.
He is 3 months old and it was pretty much love at first sight.

We found Mudge through All Breeds Rescue. I can not say enough about this great organization. All Breeds Rescue partnered with Oh My Dog in South Burlington and together they help save unwanted dogs. The organization drives to South Carolina once a week and rescues as many dogs from high kill shelters as they can. This includes puppies and older dogs alike. The facility itself is well kept and clean. The rescue dogs are provided a safe and loving environment while they wait to be adopted. And the staff are patient and caring. All and all, wonderful people who are helping out a ton of dogs who would be otherwise be, well, gone. If you are looking for a dog, I would definitely recommend them.
And as for Mudge, he will be in the shop Wednesdays and Thursdays so feel free to stop by and meet him.
