Learn to Sew

Get acquainted with a sewing machine and learn to sew. This two part course will introduce you to the basic anatomy of a sewing machine and get you started using it. In this workshop Annie from Bird and Little Bird will guide you through her sewing pattern to create your very own Semi-Fantastic Mr. Fox or Mostly Marvelous Ms. Rabbit. This two session class will cover all the necessary steps for creating a unique stuffed animal, including hand and machine sewing techniques that will be useful to you in many future sewing adventures! We will stitch, stuff and accessorize our foxes and rabbits, along the way learning useful tips about toy construction, choosing materials and clever techniques for hand finishing projects. You will also leave the class with a list of resources that will help you to find great materials for future doll or toy making projects.
MATERIALS ¼ yard linen or wool, ¼ yard contrasting cotton fabric, I bag Soft Touch poly-fill supreme, coordinating thread for sewing, upholstery thread for sewing on button limbs, embroidery thread for sewing on nose, 2 plastic buttons for the eyes, four wooded buttons for sewing on the movable limbs, one seven-inch long doll needle, wool felt (optional) if you would like to avoid small buttons, wool felt can be used for the eye instead & either Bird and Little Bird's Mostly Marvelous Ms. Rabbit or Semi-Fantastic Mr. Fox pattern.

MATERIALS 3 yards pattern paper, 2 yards muslin, and thread *more fabric, zippers and notions will need to be purchased for the latter half of the class but will be decided on after class gets started.
